    CP, GTU etc,,, what are those big letters for ?

    (I wanted to sak since long)

    Excuse my ignorance of the US race coding, but on many Porsche vintage racing cars there are letters on the doors : CP, GTU etc...
    I guess these are the class or championship there are in ?

    Waht is the meaning of those letters and which period they cover ?

    CP stood for C Production. It was a Sports Car Club of America racing class. They went from A Production to I think H. AP was Corvettes, Cobras, etc. H was Sprites. And you had everything in between.

    GTU was an IMSA class, GT Under I think 3L. There was a GTO class too, mostly big V8s.

    Pre-1972 GTU was GT under 2.0 liter. In 1972, in IMSA it became GT under 2.5 liters. Not sure when it became under 3 liters

    GTO stood for "GT over" (GT over 2.5 liters)
