VIN number of slate grey 1965 911 in the Porsche museum

    Hi
I had a very brief opportunity to photograph the VIN and paint tag on the A pillar of the slate grey 1965 911 in the Porsche museum last week... I was quite a distance away and have had to enlarge the picture a bit... I cannot make out all the numbers so thought I would post it here to see if anyone has better eyesight than me (highly likely)...
It looks like it begins with a '6' which would be quite odd...

    Any thoughts?

I will be posting some more photos late in another thread and also write my comments on why I was so very disappointed in the Company after driving through the night from Berlin to Stuttgart to take my only brief chance to experience the home of my preferred brand!

    Hi

That slate grey with red '65 with a wiper on the rear window is 302503.

Factory have had it and used it for years, I have a 1990 Car and Driver (I think) magazine featuring it and quoting the chassis no.

    Cheers

Originally it was hellelfenbein/ivory white, then painted slate grey. Other sources say it was originally red.
    But cant confirm.

Agree, they have it since a long time, using it for promotional shots.
    Here for "30 Jahre 911" in 1995:

    302503 6601

    Hello,

I was recently at the museum and the build number is 302503 with what looks like paint code 6601. 6601 was the paint code for '66-67 slate gray? The paint code for slate gray in '64-65 was 6401 according to my information.

6401 was slate grey for 1964/65
6601 was slate grey for 1966/67
6801 was slate grey for 1968 and up (Steve McQueens 1970 911S was 6801!)
They were all slightly different colours.

Thanks Thomas! Now it doesn't carry the famous licence plate S-UV 333.
