    hood shocks

    Hello All

I tried a search for "hood shocks" but surprisingly didn't get a hit

What do you guys (and gals) recommend?

I have used "lift-o-mat" brand in the past and they don't seem to last very long - lifetime guarantee?

Pelican shows Stabilus (is this lift o mat?), Weltmeister and genuine Porsche

The driver's side is such a pain to change I don't want to do this again for a while

    any advice greatly appreciated

I too have used Stabilus Lift-O-Mat hood lifts in the past. I end up having to prop the hood open. I went with a lift made by Meyle HD part number 911 511 331 HDMY. It has the higher 430N opening force. It now holds my hood open from 1 foot to all the way open. So far I am happy with them. Ask me in a year how they are holding up. Haha

Ask your Porsche dealer for the Stabilus with partnumber starting with 959.
After several other Stabilus versions (the one listed as the ones for our cars...) never had any problem again.

I thought the 959 thing was a joke -- does anyone have the complete part number?

It's not hard to find--Porsche's parts catalog downloads include the 959. The part you are looking for is:

    959.511.333.00 gas-filled strut

SierraMadre has them. $129.98. I think I'm going to stick with my carbon fiber prop.

We carry Stabilus in two different pressure ratings:

Generally I'd consider Stabilus a higher quality unit than Meyle but you have a relatively inexpensive shock that has extremely high pressure so it may be difficult to have a long life with the quality of seals and components that can be used at that price point. I think climate may also affect performance as areas that get a fair bit of cold weather may be tougher on longevity.
