    Won't Start....help needed!

    Gang,
For about the last week, I have been desperately trying to start my 71 S. I have a stock set up with a freshly rebuilt top end. Last night, I was able to get spark at TDC and seem to have everything static timed correctly.
Last night, I decided to pour a bit of gas into the MFI stacks thinking that it would fire right up....it didn't. Tried it again....same non-starting result.
My local guy told me to shoot a bit of oil into the cylinders and to check compression. Does this make sense to anyone?
    Any help is appreciated!

That was exactly what I thought, but I have spark at the proper time. Verified with my timing light.

Have you checked the MFI pump pulley wheel mark on the back of the pump to match to the FE mark past #4 TDC on the crank pulley

I just started one last week for the first time in 15 years. All I do is run a jumper from a hot terminal at the rear fuse box to the solenoid on top of the fuel filter, to manually prime the system. In your case you need the aircleaner on as that is where the spray bars are. Be careful not to over do this, you can also flood the engine if you're not careful. This one started in two or three tries.

If the gas down the stacks didn't get the engine to make any noise I would verify that the firing order is correct
Or the cam timing is correct.

Go back and recheck everything that has to do with timing. #1 TDC distributor, both valves closed. 360 plus to FE mark, check mark on the injection pump.
Fuel pressure and flow to spec.
I would pull a plug and check for over fueling.
Just a few of the things to think about
Take you time and breath, it will be okay.

That is what I have done, along with a compression check.
I also thought that when I dumped gas into the stacks, I might have dumped too much, because when I pulled the plugs, they really smelled like gas.
    Thanks much!
