Since you did the case by-pass mod you'll have to use the later solid pistons, but I would recommend using the original relief springs, as they will retain a higher oil pressure. The SC engines ran at a lower oil pressure.

Thanks heaps Ed. This is valuable info. Now my only decision is whether to stay with the original pump of go to the SC.

Since you have done the case by-pass oil mod you should go to the SC pump with the smaller scavenge pump, as that was the pump designed to be used with the internal by-pass back into the pump inlet.

It is interesting Andy. I was talking with a friend today about this and we noticed that the earlier years SC pumps without the integrated screen have the same part number as the later ones with the screen/pickup. The screen has obvious value but if it disintegrates could be chaos. I am going for the earlier one at this stage. Further, I haven't been able to find any threads on early 901 pumps failing. I am sure there are some?

    Distintegrated screen?

    Laughable.

Like any other part that is compromised and not replaced there will be consequences.
That's just one reason why you should never change oil without dropping the plate.

Sump plate is the window into your motor.

I am sure Andy was only trying to be helpful Frank. I appreciated all the good advice in this thread and had already made up my mind about which pump to seek.
