Tank breather hose swb through the body madness...

I`m about to fit the swb swan neck and correct breather hose but

The tube that goes through the body out next to the crossmeber was full of dirt and the tube was DONE , properly have been there since new . The

hole up to the tank areas is not a stragiht whole , but seems to be a flat hole with no space to wire a new tube through, as part of the old one is left inside hard as glass and impossible to get out.

Have anyone done the work before,? It is possible to get a much smaller hard air tube through , but ofcause the hole is much smaller…… I wonder if it would make the function of the tank breathing bad, but as the old one was flat and filled wirt dirt, and the small harder tube gets air when driving
I guess it would be ok?

yes, it is where the 90 deg alu tube goes into the the tank aear and connect with another hose witch goes through the cross member/body and out in the air.

It is the last tube that stuck in pieces inside the cave in the body

    thanks

Is your tank still out? I don't recall that there is any tube in the pan there, just the removable 90 degree fitting.

No, my tank is still inside the car, thats why it is so difficult, I think there have to be a tube , as the the 90 deg tub is not long enough to reach the hole in the pan and the hole in the pan is not aligned with the top hole, so even more plausibel with a hose out .

btw. the hole through the pan is accutaly not a hole , but a opening to the inside of the pan, from both side ( also outside) so if you do use a hose through, then wil the tank breathe inside the pan.... with possible gas to run inside the pan.

or am I complete wrong ...?

The area your trying to work on is poorly represented by the parts manual illustrations. The hard "j" pipe does pass through the body with a grommet and then there is another piece of plastic tube to exit out under the car. You will need to remove the gas tank first to get to this area.

My tank is out and still reluctant to be removed. I have other priorities at the moment though. ......cliff
PS I think the grommet as stated above is the demon....I was trying to salvage mine!!!!

Got mine out this morning. I turned the neck 180* ( facing forward ) it seemed to break the tube from the metal neck ( the bottom plastic tube was stuck in the grommet ) and came out easily. I then pushed & bent the bottom tube and made its way thru the top hole near the filler pipe... the bottom tube is real hard and brittle-useless now.....cliff
