    brake caliper repair advice needed

when I replace my brake fluid I "exercise" the pistons. all pistons are moving on all wheels and one piston on the front caliper has moved out too far and I am afraid I have extended it beyond the piston ring. do I have any hope that I can get it back in the bore without removing the caliper from the car? I assume I will need to remove the dust cover (901 351 998 00). Is it possible to reuse the dust cover or is that not a smart idea? On the other front caliper, the dust cover is torn. same question, can I replace the dust cover without removing the caliper from the car?

    thanks for the help

If there's no fluid leaking out use a pry bar and lever against the rotor and maybe you'll get it back in. You will have to work side to side so as to not cock the rotor in the bore. If the boot isn't torn of course you can reuse it. It is possible to get that dust seal on with caliper on, depends on your dexterity and frustration level.

One of the best uses for really worn out brake pads. Pop in and out easily to "test-pump" calipers.
