    It wouldn't be a 912 VIN. Like a 911, that would have 9 numbers in '69. 1290XXXXX.

    It is the production number found under the lower right hand dash bolster and also under the shift coupler cover on cars built by Karmann. Nothing to do with the VIN on LWB cars.
