Porsche’s new anti-theft app keeps classics from being stolen
With 911 values climbing through the roof, some owners are in want of more security

Porsche has launched a vehicle tracking app controlled through a smartphone, allowing users to set up a safeguard against theft.

The system is available for classic Porsches and includes a number of features to aid in theft deterrent or recovery of the owner’s car.

A geo-fence can be set up around the Porsche, and if anybody tries to move it out of that area without authorization, it sends a notification to the smartphone.

Notifications are also sent if the battery is disconnected (to try and disable the system) and once the owner confirms the move was unwanted, the app can immediately contact the police.

For times when the battery is disconnected for a while – perhaps during maintenance, or if your car is a trailer queen and you’re transporting it to a car show – the system can be disabled easily, to save yourself from accidentally having the police arrest you for stealing your own car.

To have the system installed, the car will need to be taken into a dealer, where a control unit and GPS will be installed.

Currently, the tech will be made available only for the European market, but we’re hoping it makes its way to Canada as well.
