Dredging this one up as there are still people who are confused as to what “original” means.
Gosh I miss Richard’s crazy commentary. Anyone know how his family is doing?

Nice, here are some really great post and information about the fan restoration. I have also some cracks in my fan and would like to weld it…
Does anybody could give some tips about the welding, especially which filler material I could use? The picture is "stolen" from the begin of this discussion...
Another one for old thread; for ones who have used Cerakote on magnesium, do you know if magnesium was pre-treated (chromated) before Cerakote? And with what product (i.e. Dow # 7)? Or was it sprayed immediately after bead blast or tumbler (within few hours)?
This is vital part if you want powder coat or paint to stick for years on magnesium and IMO Cerakote would be the same.

I'll throw in another shovel full. G
Love the original marble look to Gordon's fan and housing. The cerecote is beautiful, but not original.
While reading this thread I heard a knock on the door. It was Santa coming early!!
A friend is moving and out of the Porsche business. He left me a box of goodies including this NOS fan.
65-75. Dealer list is $1068,wow.
FWIW, though this is correct for 65-75, as a replacement part the date stamp on it is 45/82. Meaning 45th week of 1982
Nice Rick.
3-4 years ago I purchased 10 fans from Porsche. The finish was nothing like original. Sent them all back.
You scored.
I hear ya Frank, the truth is that's the story with most of the parts you buy over the counter. My friend just ordered a new "original" shift boot for his 993, problem was they are not leather. That's from a Porsche dealer saying that's all that is available.
I need to clarify my Cerakote question so that it would be for hotrod. I totally agree that its nowhere near the original finish.

Perfectly fine for a hot rod.
