I knew it was more and the stat in the advertisement caught my eye.

No, there were about 4 times that amount according to my data in coupe and targa form.
Not completely sure how accurate this book is but it says right around 718 targas and somewhere around 1460 coupes.

Ed, I am just a little confused also.
It is undeniable the passion in this man and his car and the workmanship is admirable and looks great.
I understand people have different taste so I can accept the 'black out' look as this man's taste and some of the improvements were acceptable, like the duel circuit brakes.
But a few things I just do not get like that exhaust and the air filter snorkel on backwards/upside down.
I always enjoy looking at early Porsche and this is no exception, Cool car.

According to the Ebay ad the engine number is 960981. Vin is 307065S.

My, infamous 65/67S is vin 306923S original engine (per Kardex) was 960905, so my car's vin is 142 earlier and my original engine (still looking for) was 76 earlier. My car was picked up "Tourist Delivery" at the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen on 17 December 1966 for a spin down through Italy before being returned to the factory and shipped to the US early 1967. Don't know how many S's were made in the 1966 calendar year, but not a lot I'm guessing, I thought just 3 batches.

960981 would be the correct correct engine, trans number listed in ad is off too. Was light ivory originally, sold new with an optional ski rack in New York..... bad combo for 'rust free', but it looks cool.
