So I actually located my 912R's original motor. It's being shipped up from Florida. Pretty cool stuff.

Update; this car will be featured in Autoweek once the Porsche flat 4 race motor is completed and tested. They contacted me through Instagram (the_r_institute) and said that they were really excited to feature this 1968 912 outlaw.
I've always liked Autoweek so it's really an honor for me.

Stinger 912R motor update; I bolted the #616casehalves together..the main bearing clearances are too high (.004"-005") number 1,2&3 and bearing in the timing cover was within spec but higher than I'd prefer at .004"
The crank turning is spot-on according to our little spec book by "the Maestro" Harry Pellow.
We'll buy new bearings (thicker, .50mm) and bore them in the case to have a perfect .002" clearance on all when done.
So, another week or two until assembly can begin unfortunately.
Motor will be 10,5:1 cr, has billet cylinders (86mm), 74mm stroke for 1720ccs. Nuetek cam, Carrillo rods of course, light pins, JE forged pistons, new but standard valves, 40mm IDF Webers.
The rotating assembly has been balanced dynamically, crank balanced and magnafluxed. I didn't have the new rods magnafluxed, I dont think necessary. The Carrillo rods are stronger than stock and weigh about 80 grams less per rod.
Power and torque*TBD.
Weight should be in the high 1600s as before.
The safety stripe is a custom color I mixed in Glasurit and added a few months ago to be seen as well as accent the SEV Marchal lighting

Enquiring minds want to know...
Why?
I have asked the same question to the original poster...
Until I get an answer I will close it, but not remove it....
