IMO, the '68 912 is a perfect candidate for an R-inspired hot rod due to a few MY68 specific parts. I'll be throwing together a build post shortly - I look forward to seeing your build progress and comparing notes!

Greg, Very cool and I will look for your thread. Let's stay in touch.

Here is the engine lid I butchered. It was already drilled so i had little to lose. I made a punch and die to make my louvers so

If anyone wants anything louvered I'm your guy ! I love punching louvers..

I started forming a tiny ducktail "missing link" spoiler, but won't clutter it up with that i don't think. Porsche racing cars had spoilers out back in '68 so i was thinking it could have been done by an enthusiast back in the day prior to the ducktail making its appearance.

    Hey Matthew,

Awesome progress so far! Thanks for sharing.

Is this the 959 kit car you mentioned previously? Can't be too many of them in our area right? http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/5248675914.html

Thanks Ben, It's been slow starting b/c I'm helping a buddy with his '67 which is Swiss cheese..

Re 959, No, that car is long sold but this one is also worth less than half of asking imo.

Imagine the work involved in removing these body "upgrades" getting back to square and repainting correctly. Well over $15,000.

Thanks, The deck lid is not original to the car, it went missing somehow. Only 912 deck lids go missing.

    Beautiful, What color is this?

Well lead to the rescue again. Note To Self: Don't wear running sneaks again while working with molten metal..

The door looks very nice. I couldn't be more pleased with it. The lead goes on very sloppy but in the end it's worth the effort and mess and burnt foot.

Note: After tinning the steel to accept the lead [to make it stick] the acid in the tinning butter must be neutralized right afterward with a strong baking soda / water solution.

Could I see the rest of your gold metallic Porsche?

Single stage metallic paint still or a repaint in modern base-clearcoat system?

Here are some splitters I added. I'm sure there will be strong feelings one way or the other on looks. My car used to float around at about 110 mph. I've crossed 130 and the car is solid and tracks true with no drama. It seems to add just enough down force and the rear doesn't feel light. It also seems to help ram a little more air into the oil cooler on that side.
