1987 Porsche 944 (951) Turbo Cup. Factory race car found!

I wanted to share with you an interesting car. This car was brought into North America
with 10 other Turbo Cup/Escort cars in 1987. 9 cars stayed in the US two went to Canada to be tested for next seasons
infamous Rothmans Turbo Cup series. The two CDN cars ran the 24 hr Mosport race #60 and #61. I have the
the #60 car which is the 6th car from the group of 11. For many years on rennlist the owners had found each other
but they could not locate the #6 car. I found it last week just outside Toronto where the original owner had kept it tucked away.

You can read the original thread here started in 2005 and still going strong today!

    http://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-9...-cup-cars.html

This car was purchased from Porsche St Catherines in 1988 after it had run the Mosport 24hr race. The car
was registered for the street and sits now with 21k original miles. The car is all original if even still has two sets
    of magnesium wheels. (Ultra rare)

The two Canadian cars were shipped to the US and delayed
as they didn't have the proper emissions stickers etc. Once the US car
were removed from customs, some how the proper stickers appeared on the two CDN cars.
Guessing someone at PMNA helped out Porsche St Catherines. These cars were run at the 24 hr race
as test cars for the next seasons Rothmans Turbo Cup. My car was driven by Rick Bye
Cam Champion and Deacon. The 61# was run by Scott Goodyear, Spienard and Bill Adam.

I have always been a huge fan of the Rothmans series and if you haven't already I suggest going to youtube
to watch some of the races. Best spec series I've ever seen. That being said I'm really excited to have the precursor
to that series and on top of it a proper Porsche factory race car.

I will post more on the car as I dive into it.

Very nice cars, quite underated. I used to own the journalists' car of the french series, it was scary efficient.
Trivia points: the mirrors are SCRS, with diffeent feets. The rims are Mg.

Well, it's a small world. I can not say I remember the name, but I remember the meeting. For me, there was much more car than driver with that Cup car.

    GREAT news !

Tremendous cars..... and remember them well during competition.

The link you posted has several replies by Oddjob, owner of one of these CUP cars--- one of the 9 in the US. You two know each other I assume. He is a good friend and I own one of the previous '89-951s he lists in his signature.

His CUP car is receiving the 'love' it needs to get back on the circuit once again. And I will be seeing him at our next track days/ PCA Club race in a few weeks.

GREAT guy, GREAT car, and a superb driver... I treasure the fact he entrusted his beautiful '89 - 951 to me when it came time for him to sell.

Thanks Guys, I have been speaking with Oddjob sharing notes about the cars. I am heading out to Mosport this weekend to give the car
a shakedown. To be honest my car is a time capsule all the original parts are still there even the back up set of wheels have the original
    1987 Slicks!

    Cheers
    John
