John, what size filter did they use to fit an opening that large?

    954 Air cleaner

John, The 954 parts book shows the air cleaner with a solid cover (1), and a second cover offered with screen (9) From the looks of the diagram the screen mesh is small. Note: if the wing nut is M6, the mesh looks smaller. The air filter cartridge (4) is 901.108.955.01 and is noted as a stock part. The parts book also lists 3 more air filters, all are noted as stock parts, 901.108.955.01, 901.108.955.02, and 901.108.955.03 (not shown in the diagram), but have the "ww" code, which means, by choice.

cheers for the info , i guess if a do a fine mesh one of the type used by some on the open stacks and a larger mesh for those who do want to run a air filter.

I like the large mesh. I may be remembering incorrectly, but I thought the intake was on the back of the airbox of the SCRS.

the pic shows both options , i can make the solid cover but doubt most would want to cover the rest of the air box .

So, can unfiltered air get around the outside of the filter and into the engine? I can't tell from the picture where it's sealed.
