Just wondering - and apologize if that is a question that has been discussed before, still very much on a learning curve here - wouldn't the swap to the SCRS style air cleaner cover change the amount of air the engine can suck in, i.e. more air? Wouldn't that have an impact on air-fuel-ratio etc.?
good point , i have taken the assumption that if you replace the carb box on a 911 for high flow air cleaners they work better this mod will do the same to a lesser deg. plus the air is being taken higher and closer to the inflow so should be colder .

without putting the car in a wind tunnel and smoke testing the flow i know of no definitive answer.

    look cool though

John, I am running a filter inside and it's I.D. matches the O.D. of the wire mesh screen. The filter has a slight cone shape in the rear and allows more air to be pulled in around it compared to the front section.

Did a little reading on how the MFI system works as the question I asked kept bothering me - which I actually should have done before asking the question.

Writing this for all those who stumble over the same question - and apologizing to repeat what is obvious to those in the know - and without claiming to be an expert: basically, I was wondering how the MFI system measures air mass flow through the stacks and how that impacts fuel metering. Well, it doesn't. Contrary to carburetors, where the fuel metering is performed in direct proportion to the actual airflow, with the MFI the factors governing fuel delivery are engine speed and throttle opening - i.e. the airflow is not measured directly at all and fuel delivery is based on two mechanical inputs. Still being new to the MFI world, and being just a tinkerer, not a pro, coming from a car universe that until recently consisted of carburetted Alfas, MGs and BMWs, it simply didn't occur to me that air mass flow was not in the equation - so to speak. Got some further reading to do .... gonna be fun.

    Recommend reading for MFI-beginners:

If there's an older thread here on the forum that explains all this: can I ask those who contributed to it to add the link.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread. To bring it back to the OP's topic: John, the wire mesh screen looks terrific. I'd want to run it with a filter inside the airbox but would still prefer a finer mesh. The one you've been running on your 73 looks perfect and I'll buy one once you start building them.

right guys , sorry for the delay on these but 7 weeks ago my father was told he had cancer and has since passed away , so my time has been else where and just getting back on track now.
I have most of the parts ready just waiting for a couple more samples to test final fit out of the air clear cartrageas i am trying to get a correct fit for those who will be using them.

    Hey John -
Anything new to report? I am a long ways from completing my motor build, but definitely will be wanting one of these as the cherry on top. I hope all is well.
