I'm not a windscreen or car glass expert but from a little digging summarised in my post above it is my understanding that UNECE Reg. 43 a standard for safety glass used in road vehicles was only adopted from around 1981 therefore while this example is made in West Germany R43 suggests it is probably after longhood era possibly from the eighties pre-German reunification after which point the West Germany marking changed. Likley the decade 81-91?

    My early samples

After removing my factory tinted windshield from my 1968, I discovered some unique markings on the perimeter of the glass. A possible date stamp and two small stars, bronze in color. Has anyone else seen something similar? The stamping with the “P” logo on top of the word “SIGLA” is from my 68 and the other logo is from my 66. The 66 is also an original factory windshield, non tinted. The big difference I noticed is the letters “SGG”. I wonder if that has anything to do with factory Name: 7AE568E3-20D8-44E9-92DB-D72412D457C4.jpg

Wonderful thread. Just to mix it up a little, what is the best source for replacement windscreens and can they be etched?

I bought the proper tinted and Sigla marked windshield from SierraMadre. They do come on sale from time to time. Shipping is what kills you to Canada. I found UPS was the lowest, but still pricy. But the box is huge and well packed.

The Sierra Madre windshield has “DOT 25” etched into it which wouldn’t be correct for an early SWB car. Also the P logo inside the upside down triangle is not crisp, the lines bleed over. I don’t know if you can request one without the “DOT 25” markings though.

Has anyone sourced these windows with correct markings in Europe or are they only available at Sierra Madre or Stoddard?
I have a LWB which needs a green tint, correct marked window.

Shipping the Sierra Madre window from LA to Northern Europe was quoted to 1200$ (DHL) only for the shipping when the window itself costs only 535$.
