Definitely don't repaint! And wash it more 'sympathetically' in the future. How many have 'any' original paint versus 'all' original paint? Must be less than 10%... so DON'T repaint.

Do you have a paint thickness gauge? Would love to know what the readings are for the car in a number of spots... haven't been able to find the factory 'depth of paint' data anywhere.

    Thanks.

So this is 46 year old paint and now it spontaneously comes off, swell. So is the original paint still a good thing, and accept this as a battle scar or is it time to do a repaint? What is considered to be the lesser of the 2 evils, marred originality or go for the shiny gee wiz new coat of Bahama Yellow, replace the rubber seals, pop the windshield and put in a new dash in the process. The car would become a 10/10 car and I wouldn't want to drive it, hermetically seal it and become a gollum with my precious. blah blah...

I would appreciate opinions on the next step. I've seen pics of rusted Speedsters and 911's that are regarded as patina, and I've heard there is nothing more malignant than exposed early 911 metal.
the paint has already has failed and lifted from the surface leaving a void, driving in the rain or just the air flow could have separated the paint... fix all areas asap... it traps moisture and other contaminates leading to rust etc and eventual more failure...

patina does not represent chipped paint, rust, torn or worn out upholstery or anything totally failed in condition.. it is overused by those who do not have the care or the resources to maintain the car in a non failed condition...

no patina here, just a lot of crap from failed paint and gateway to further problems from corrosion

    Scott:

You know the right thing to do.
Trade me that car for a few shekels more than you have in it and just keep on keepin' on.

Or , I can find some cheap old vintage airplane stuff laying out in the woods around here, and I will send those on to you in reimbursement.

You know, just so you don't have to worry about that kind of stuff any more.
