….one more set today - photo #2 is a shot of John Starkey, accomplished author and Porsche researcher whose books grace many a Porsche fanatics shelves His definitive work, "From R to GT3" is required reading for anyone with even mild interest in 911s - and a real gentleman to boot.

Photos #4 & 5 illustrate the magic ability of a turbo-charged flat 12 to draw a crowd the instant the mighty engine is started.

The last set from the paddock & the general pit area before moving on into the CHOPARD display. Photos #1, 2 &3 are of a rare and interesting '68 911 T/R factory race car. It has been used as a racecar since new and has accumulated more than 23,000 race miles, and at Rennsport was driven by Patrick Long.

The Placard accompanying the car is quite detailed, yet fails to make any mention of the large, decidedly non-standard 'airbox' in the area the rear seats would normally occupy - I recall how much that detail frustrated the late, much missed John Thornton to no end, because he never could beat "Jezebel', as the white car is named, with his own very fast Emory-built '912R', even though Thornton's car usually was able to get the best of many 2-liter 911s racing in the same class - he suspected the car's speed was due in part to the elimination and modification of the rear seat area to increase the volume available and unblocking the area for pressurized under-car air to escape, thus reducing lift.
