    What's Original?

There is no accepted definition of originality. Every marque defines it differently. Here's an article I recently wrote comparing the judging of Corvettes, Porsches and Ferraris.

The judging of originality is very different for each marque.

Interesting how the different car clubs have different approaches to how they judge in Concours. All the clubs rules influence behavior. I like to think that the Porsche Club rules don't penalize folks for driving their cars and that the Porsche company provides a wide variety of Original replacement parts. The 700 mile 911S is truly a spectacular car, but it is a freak that you can't drive. Just like the Ferrari rules penalize you for having non original tires- that influences the behavior of never driving your car. I appreciate that the Porsche Club rules encourages/supports driving even for Concours cars. Porsche Parades are fun because you can drive your car there, concours it one day, and then autocross and Rallye it in subsequent days. That in my mind makes for a fun and vibrant car club.
