    Non matching question

Non matching car: If the engine case number was only one digit off rather than several hundred off, would you pay any more for the car? How much more?
It seems to me that "matching numbers" is all about originality and bragging rights. I'm curious if one digit off creates any type of emotion that equates to $$$.

I have my personal feelings on this but would like to get input from others.

"Close... but no cigar". I don't think I would pay any more for 1 number off than another car with a correct/non-matching engine.

I believe this question was posed a little while back and some people were of the mindset that if it were close, say within a 100, it was more than just a non matching. They said if it's the correct year and specs they would still pay more than just a bastard 911 motor in it. To me... Numbers matching is numbers matching and non matching is non matching.

Non matching non matching in my opinion. I would of course pay less for an engine that is not "period correct" vs. a "period correct engine" but 1 digit or 100 digits off shouldn't impact the value.

would there be any baked goods or alcohol involved? That would make a big difference to me.

    Mark,

Holiday cheer would be a nice reward for responding to my survey but I'm afraid I blew up this year's budget on the hot dogs at our company Christmas party.

For me I would pay more for a blank case than a case that is one number off from the factory case. One number off or a hundred makes no difference to me.

Agree, one number no but two numbers yes.
Or, three numbers no but yes for one number.
    But still, its not matching...
