FYI my July build 65 911 had it, but not 12/65 or 4/66 builds (unless they were stripped clean by PO)

My December '65 does not have it.
Here I was all excited to see someone had responded to this thread, but alas, my hopes got dashed (no,wait. tanked.) again.

My July 9, 1965 #301638 would really like to have one. If anyone wants to start a Sombrero task force to figure out the best way to reproduce these please put me down. There has to be a solution for this.

I think the solution is what moito did in post #79. Anyone know what material he used?
Agree. Maybe we can start a Go Fund Me for Franz as a motivation starter. At one point I was thinking that using the outer paper portion of Bill Perrone's 356 fuel tank covering applied over some sort of insulation material of the correct thickness would work, but I don't think it would have the right texture or appearance. The last thing you'd want to end up with is something that looks like a high school science project. I spoke with someone from Stoddard at the last Lit Meet, but I really don't see them coming up with something.
I'm in for a Go Fund Me for someone....

Anyone tried anything new in the interim of thread posts to report?
Thanks!
