Doesn't it make sense that the 901's would have come with a 356 type fob as their production overlapped and the type and number of keys also?

I assume likewise, but have no factual proof of it, yet.

Just one data point, and not a highly reliable data point at that, but I knew one 356C owner who had the "coin purse" style key fob which he believed to be original to his car. If I recall correctly, he was an early owner but not the original owner.

By the way, I searched my key fob drawer and found another style:

ha..i knew this question would come from you...
since they come off if you have the right methode you don`t need to destroy them and possibly could reuse them...but i sourced, or better said ,i found them in my sisters "nähkästchen"
so i used new ones...but had to build a tool to press them

did not measure them but they are stainless steel,..same for the nuts..wanted to buy some washers cause one was missing, but of course the ones available have different dimensions ....later grilles i disassembled had aluminum nuts and (bigger)washers.

This seems to be a reproduction of the 64-key pouch.
