if i was to try to get a hotel room for this event, close to the venue, where might I look? Also, is this the weekend before Long Beach?

That all depends on where the event is held. The last two were in Culver City, so I would assume that this one will be somewhere in that neck of the woods. But the only person who can shed light on that would be Pat, and he's busy taking a podium finish in the GTD class at Daytona.

Yes, the Long Beach Grand Prix is 15-17 April 2016. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Race runs 4:05 PM to 5:45 PM on Saturday, 16 April 2016.
It's not too hard to get around LA on the weekends so staying anyplace in the West Side/Santa Monica/South Bay/Long Beach environs should be ok.

No need to speculate, since Pat said it would be in Downtown LA.
Lots of hotel options.

Are there any further details on location and schedule?
The wait is over! We're thrilled to announce Modernica as venue partners for our event April 10, 2016, at 2891 Saco Street in Vernon, CA. The renowned manufacturer and designer of Modern furniture have an incredible factory just south of downtown Los Angeles, and will be throwing open their doors for our congregation of the devoutly air-cooled.
