    correct key for 1965 911

I have come across several key designs. One pic below is from the 1/65 manual, showing a hooked shape, which I do not remember having seen in real life. The other pics are of actual keys (more rounded) and I also have seen that same shape with the DOM logo on it (the lock manufacturer).
What is correct for a 911 from 1965?

    Key Chart

A key chart for the early 911 and 912 models, from period Porsche literature.
According to this chart, the "Export, U.S.A." ignition key was carried over from the previous 356 models, while the key for "Europe" was new.
Notice the change in glove compartment keys at 2/65...

A note about 356 ignition keys...

There were two similar looking but different ignition keys for the 356, the K100 series from 1957 to 1961, and the K300 series from 1962, which was also used in many early 911 and 912 models.
Any random 356 key blank you find on eBay might not be the correct version for your 900 series car.

As someone pointed out in the recent thread on locking steering, the cars with locking steering columns had FL keys and the cars without had K keys. My car has a locking steering column and the small brass bezel.

I have one genuine PORSCHE key and a Taylor copy. I also have glovebox keys on a (non-original) blank Tony Euganio supplied and Hirschman antenna "keys."

Thank you for posting this Jon. When I purchased my car several years ago i did what we all do and dug through the glove box, under the seats and mats, and through the door pockets, trunk, and ash trays for relics from the past. I found an odd looking key shown here on the bottom and thought is was an old house key. The pack rat that I am, I hung it on the key rack with all the other orphan keys accumulated over the years only to find out now that it is the elusive glove box key!!

    Justifies being a pack rat!
