Yep. I think the starter right above your post.well, it is not a 901 one. As for what it "fits," we don't know. MIGHT actually fit in a 901 but try to start the engine backwards. Maybe a list member can figure it out? Or Jerry ("Miles") rather than a PM can just tell us what he knows. Thanks.

    Allen

So the nose piece is actually a separate part? Used as an adaptor to use a starter with a non supported bendix (like a 356) in a transmission without a bendix support (like a 356)? Very interesting.

    Regards

I have this starter, it came with the 901 "232" gearbox we got which I have posted in the for sale section #100114.

I'll clean it up a bit and post pictures shortly.
    Thanks

Allen, Have looked into starter in more detail. Unit fits into a 12/66 901 trans. Motor runs. Starter engages. Starter turns clockwise when looking from the engine side of bellhousing. This would try to start engine backwards. Must fit an early BMW. Jerry

I knew I set it aside for a reason
What sort of value would you place on it?
Speaking of the transmission, are we way off base with the price? Have nothing to compare to other then the $29,500 one on Ebay Everyone who wants it just says, "oh its just a core worth like $1500". Some how I just can't believe that.
    THANKS!
