After all this "research" I ended up going with Tony and Autobahn Interiors for my carpeting. He has the "Haagarn" German medium brown carpet and the experience to get it right. He even uses the original rubber backing with the pimples. I went with the medium brown binding. Here are the pics showing the sample pieces. So for those interested give Tony a call.

Edit: thanks to all that contributed to this thread.

Checked the pictures and some binder.

We are talking about S- only or comfort options carpets only.

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...l=1#post937870

The German word is Schlingenvelour/Velour, while the English one is Pile type carpet, and the French one is Velour boucle.
Porsche named this carpet : Velour.
There had been only two colours 72/73: brown and black.

Following to "Schlingen" and Boucle, we have to search for a Boucle type made carpet. And it should be a fine soft material, following my back rest samples.
Following to velour, the material should be velour, not haargarn. Haargarn looks to fine. The shown examples have to much white fibres/hairs.

    T/E carpets are finer.

Thought I was done with this thread as I haven't got a brown interior but just remembered I had large format factory brochure 106.23. Undated but 2.4 era. Can't say if they have been retouched as curiously there are several variants of similar brochure produced nor can I say what is photographed is correct material hue used in production because this was material for marketing purposes. Plus side is however they are professionally taken shots and pretty clear interior image from that era. Hope it helps me providing yet more original in-period factory sourced material to the debate because what is offered as reproduction carpet material and colour today may (or may not) be faithful to original -- I simply don't know.

(PS apologies to our native German speakers for my misspelling of the reproduction material. Had not heard of that name before so was just taking it from what I'd read on this forum and or may have mistyped).

I agree with Velour/Pile/Velour designations, as it can be found in Porsche literature for ROW vs. US market.
However, imo wrong on the color choice, in 72, you could have at least 5 choices: Black, Brown, Beige, Red and Blue carpet choice.
Also possible it could have a second Brown choice, available only if the car was ordered in Special Color, making 6 choices.

And here is proof for 72. (ill post later for 1973)
All items showing are actually owned by myself.

First, the Standard Color Folder, Model Year 1972, ROW.
Pic is showing only a part of the entire folder.

Second, the Special Color Folder, Model Year 1972, ROW
Note the Red and Blue Carpet choice, Brown seems to be the same as Standard Color choice.

And here the (ultra rare) Upholstery Folder for Dealers, showing real Carpet samples for 1972, USA
The folder is much more complete, here just a part of it, covering the carpets (Special Color carpets are not included)
Note the name designation, different than ROW but same item.
Pile for E and S, optional for T, Perlon for T.

    Karim,

you are right on the special color 1972/73. There had been three additional carpet colors blue, brown and red.

On the other hand, picture 5-7 on post #30 seem to be out of a 71 color folder. Or?

    BR
    Dirk
