    Blaupunkt Frankfurt Stereo Speaker Locations?

    Hello,

My 1972 911s shows a stereo in the dealer paperwork and also in the Blaupunkt warranty information that was saved. Unfortunately the original stereo was lost to an 'upgrade' many years ago and I am trying to source another one.

What I don't understand is how the 'stereo' speakers might have originally come from the factory since there really weren't door speakers? Is there a stock speaker setup for the rear deck? If so, what happens to the mono speaker in the dash?

I would really appreciate any pictures or advice.

    Thanks!

If you remove the door cards/panels, you will see that there is a factory existing hole in the door sheetmetal for a traditional round speaker. If your door panels are original to the car (and not cut for speakers), then that only leaves the rear shelf for surface mount speakers. Here again, if that rear shelf is known to be original and there are no surface mounting holes, then I don't know where the 'stereo' speakers would have been placed other than to flop around on the back seat on back footwells (not very likely!).

I have seen Blaupunkt Stereo radios in 72 911s. They came with a single speaker in the dash like all other mono radios but also had a single speaker placed in a plastic box that said "Blaupunkt" .and attached to the rear package tray.
I'll look today. I think I have a similar speaker in my stuff somewhere.

    Regards

    Jim

As it turns out --- my car also came with such an install. The speakers + their attachment for Blaupunkt are distinctive. I'll try to post some pictures this week-end

Meanwhile . . . any more details about yours?

. . . yours will be only the 4th car that I know of that I would suspect to have a Faktory stereo install

Love to see any docs that you can post --- especially your Kardex w/ option codes

Also --- my dash speaker is intact

Unfortunately I do not have a Kardex but I do have a copy of the letter from the selling dealership to the original owner and the radio documentation that I found in the glovebox.

I was under the impression that I there would not be any Kardex available given the year of my car? FWIW, it is not mentioned on the Porsche COA although I'm rather confident that it was delivered with a stereo radio given the warranty documents.

I have no idea how the looked when it was originally delivered. I am attempting to contact the original owner via mail to see if he might be able to assist me.

Thanks very much for the photos, those rear speakers look to be rare...

The instruction manual you pictured seems to be for a slightly earlier stereo Frankfurt but who knows what was fitted.

Picture of the catalogues for 1971 and 1972. Red one is 1971; orange one is 1972 but post dates your car I think.

OK, I dug up a speaker but it is missing it's mounting stuff. I am almost positive that my friend's 72E only had one speaker in the back but my memory is not all that reliable anymore.

    Ciao

Good memory. Version similar to yours all black appear in those 71/72 blaupunkt catalogues but the silver trim is pictured in North America 69 catalogue...

Here is a msgszine review of the Blaupunkt Bamberg top of range stereo cassette around 1972 that describes installation a one front two rear installation using 3 way fader variation of along the lines one speaker front one speaker back you mention. Not great image but should still be readable.
