One more thing. Your stereo cost $239 pre tax according to the dealer letter?

The suggested retail price of blaupunkt Frankfurt stereo on the USA market price list dated February 1972 (that presumably was concurrent with your factory or maybe dealer install ) was $167.10, the fader I pictured with three speaker control was just over $10, the 911 specific facia kit with knobs etc to adapt plain radio unit with one speaker was $21.10 ( or bit lower if no front speaker) and the further speaker pair for stereo depending on what type was chosen were in the $15 ish range. Possibly cable and speaker terminals like I pictured was required running to a a few more bucks. Antenna would have been Hirschmann, I assume, but blaupunkt power ones were around $22- 29 and manual version less, as a guide.

Not sure what that tallies to but had info here to share.

I have never found any mention of these speakers in any period parts books, so I guess these were all sort of "off the radar" custom installs, maybe just dealer level??

For model year Option 422 Bamberg DM1150 was second week of 1973 I understand. Also Option 468 Becker Mexico was DM1350, I believe. Both stereo. I have both of these units with papers etc.

To your point, not sure what speakers came fitted if factory installed these at time "top of range" option stereo units when customer checked the relevant box in 1972/3 but presumably fitted one of those speakers I've listed from prevailing Blaupunkt 1972/3 range. These integrated radiocassette stereos were very expensive item at time. Approx £200 for these top of range item fitted when a brand new 914 was just around £2000! Certain that customers paying stereo would have got it and at those prices could be economic to be bespoke fitting. Maybe they were not factory fitted as you suggest maybe just done at dealer or concessionary/ importer if customer specified stereo?

That is how my Bamberg CR with two speakers was done. Fitted at dealer.

I have similar list of speakers and ancillaries with all from Becker 1972 catalogue.

Elsewhere for LongRanger I did some digging and identified when Blaupunkt first introduced the stereo range but not sure when first Porsche listed stereo as factory option. I know when it was mentioned in the UK market pricelist but seems to be a dealer fit with just a inductive price. It is in a separate thread.

There is often too much focus on Blaupunkt, the British market RS press demonstrator was fitted with a radiomobile 8 track stereo - a brand used in UK in many upmarket cars, Rolls Royce etc.

My friend who has been in London independent Porsche specialist since 70s once mentioned that he knows the guy who did radio installs for Porsche Cars Great Britain /AFN for many years. Never met the chap personally but maybe I can try to find out what they remember on how stereo speakers fitted tomorrow when I am there.

I have seen Blaupunkt Stereo radios in 72 911s. They came with a single speaker in the dash like all other mono radios but also had a single speaker placed in a plastic box that said "Blaupunkt" .and attached to the rear package tray.
I'll look today. I think I have a similar speaker in my stuff somewhere.

Does anyone happen to have a picture of this setup? It would make sense for a stereo radio with two speaker outputs.

The photos of the dual Blaupunkt boxes on the parcel shelf look very OEM as well; but I'm not entirely sure how a three speaker setup would work (2 in and 3 out fader?).

To answer the original point, my 70T COA states '4 speakers in doors'. So parcel shelf speakers weren't the only stereo speakers available.

cant find any porsche (accessories list) literature about stereo speakers and cant find an option number for those.

I think the factory supplied cars only with regular dashboard (single) speakers, even if one ordered a stereo radio.
Up to the dealer to then add/mount speakers on shelf or elsewhere and do the wiring.
