    14 inch wheels ?

How do 14" wheels lead to a more comfortable ride compared to 15" wheels?

The tire was taller on 14" wheels giving a little more shock absorbing in the tire.

    Back 1969 a Car & Driver tested a 911T with 185HR14 tires against a 911E and 811S with 185/70VR15 tires.

    • The nominal sidewall height for the 185/70VR15 was 70% of 185 mm = 129.5 mm or 5.1 inches
    • The nominal sidewall height for the 185HR14 should have been at lest 80% of 185 mm = 148 mm or 5.82 inches.

The 14" wheel tire would have had ~ 14% more tire height to "give" going over bumps. I think--given equal tire pressures--the 14" tire would have been about 14% "softer."
