In fact, all of these headlight units lights except the H1s can be equipped with H4s through one means or another:

The headlights in the top picture--inside the sugar scoops--look like Hella 7" H4 inserts because they have flat faces. Sierra Madre Collection sells Hella 7" H4 inserts for about $ 67 (but they're on sale now). Given some labor for changing them and aiming them, $ 200 installed doesn't seem too unreasonable, if that's what you paid $ 200 for.

Personally, I'd do it myself. I think it would take me 10 minutes or so to change the headlight inserts and maybe 30 minutes to aim them after I found a wall to show the light patterns.

Maybe it could have cost as little as $ 150. I think the problem isn't financial so much as a disappointment over trouble communicating with the shop. It can be difficult to accurately specify precisely which headlight unit you want since almost all Porsche 911 headlights can be equipped with H4 bulbs.

The chrome trim rings in the lower picture with the Porsche H4 headlight assemblies looks normal to me.

Jim,
I am really starting to develop a negative about this garage. It is the shop's responsibility
to understand correctly what the customer (me) wants done. I have gone through a learning
curve about headlights. When I asked for these lights I didn't know much about them other
than that I wanted H4s with the narrow chrome trim ring. Now I would have phrased it better.
Later when I saw what the shop
had done the owner claimed that he had never seen an early car like mine with these only later cars.
I ended up doing the job myself and the $200 was totally wasted. I think I should ask for my
money back but don't want to create bad feelings. The main reason for the shop visit was a
concern with the gauge harness. Get this, the shop found the problem but did not want to
work on it because of worry this would leave them open to liability issues.
