    early twin plug engines

I have an opportunity to buy a 1968 911L that currently has a twin-plug engine in it. I am trying to identify the motor.
The serial number is 900503. Can anyone help?

That is approximately the 400th 911 engine built. Belongs with a 1965 911.

It was installed into a car of approximately the serial number 300 420 range - possibly the first two weeks of February 1965.

Cars were completed at about 9 cars per day, with serial numbers for both bodies and engines up to 100+ numbers out of sequence. (As an example body 359 and 597 were completed the same day and engines 421 and 619 were installed within two days of each other at the end of January).

Plan a trip to the Factory to get specific details.

Bodies rusted away and damaged cars were scraped ... but the engines were still running. It looks like it may have found it's way into a race car.

    Good for you. :-)

Thanks for the response! Do you know if the motor came with the twin plugs, or were they added later? the car also has the original 130 HP L motor.
The engine number for that starts with 328_ _ _ _ It would be a rare block if it was an early 1965 motor...Even more so as a twinplug!

    Bob,

thanks for the response! The car is a stock 911L made for the American market. It is not one of the lightweight race cars. the car comes with the original 130 HP motor
Serial 328_ _ _ _ It is the twin-plug I am trying to identify. I want to know if it was a factory twin-plug or a later conversion.

Are you able to take the numbers cast on the heads?
It would be an indication if they are factory twin plug heads, or normal heads drilled to accept a second plug.
Not a definitive answer, but a clue.
    Kardex is another option?

What size are the spark plugs? 14 mm or 12 ? Factory original usually used the 12mm ones.
