Location vin plate 911 BY65 MY66 latch panel or not?

    Hello,

I am wondering about the location of the metal vin plate in the trunk?
My car is a BY 1965 MY 1966 with VIN 303381.
Wondering if the passenger side latch panel is flat and the right is with some ribs. So that of the left one the vin plate is mounted.
Or option B that the vin plate if mounted not on the latch panel but somewhere in the middle/left of the trunk close to where the water bottle is located with very early 911's.

    Thanks...

the washer bag was moved to the front when the adjustable struts were introduced. Dr B Johnson says this was at 2694. I could imagine that at that moment the vin plate moved and the indents on the right side of the slampanel disappeared. Not certain though.
on page 13 of drbj there is a picture saying '1965 912' showing a slampanel with a vin plate, suggesting that it changed before end 1965.

my 912 was built October 27, 1965 and has metal vin plate and vin stamp at the lower edge/hinge of the smuggler's box. Also washer bag and non-adjust struts.

Bump for a very good question. I have the plate by the stamped VIN as late as 303098 and on the slam panel up front as early as 3428, and you fall in between.
Has your slam panel been replaced? Is it early or late? Photos?

    Thanks for the replies.

Dave, the slam panel is original and has never been replaced.
The car is a late 1965 car manufactered in November 1965.
    VIN 303381.

Today I called Porsche Classic Center Gelderland in Holland.
They have a fully restored Porsche 911 1965 with VIN 303138.
I asked them for the location with their car.
They told me that it was fitted on the left flat surface of the slam panel.

It is interesting that with your 303098 it is different.

Wondering when it changed like Jacques told...

Well, the car had 44 years of life before I came in to the picture, so I guess I would have to say I'm as "sure" of its originality as the Porsche Classic Center is of the car they are looking at.
We had it down to bare metal and all appeared to be original.

To all the experts and people who love details:

    Please help me with this!
I can't imagine that there are not people with the same question?
We are doing now the metal work and need to decide how we are going to do this?
For the moment the car has a flat latchpanel on the passenger side.
Looks like it was original but don't know if the care maybe had a accident or not in its earlier years....

Already tried to contact vin 303382 the car is in Norway and owner Arve Christiaen Lode (Radmund had helped me with this) but the man don't answer.

Would be a really helpfull to blow this thread back alive!

    Thanks
