I think it is clear. It changed between 3098 and 3182, so all logical that your car has the flat panel at it is >3182. Good to go I would say, all good news, good chance its the original panel and less welding to do.

    Jacques,

    Thanks for reply!
Yeah, but I am still doubting and I would be very bad if afterwards knowing that it was not on the latch panel.
That's also why it is really important that I hear something from that guy from Norway.
Because I don't know if I will have further input on the forum.
There is until now nobody with a Vin later then 303182 who can show their plate + nobody who knows it for sure.

Is there any sign that the id plate has ever been up by the stamped number? Even if the holes have been welded up, it would be difficult to totally disguise the change.

Will check this within a week or so.
Our car was a FIA rally car. So you think you could see these holes even after welded up?
Thanks for info! Will check this.

Deeman, thanks to keep this thread alive!

Michael, maybe I miss the point. Your car has a flat right side slam panel, right? Your car is few hundred later than the apparent change, so seems obvious me in that case. Or has your slam panel indents left and right?

Jacques, now for the moment my car has indeed a flat right slam panel on the drivers side.
I know my car is a few 100 later then the apparent change.
But who tells that mine is correct?
Maybe he had a latchpanel change? It was a rally car.
So would need a car of 50-100 car earlier to be quite sure.
3182 is indents left and right so who says it changes afterwards?

If it helps, my #302580 has no plate by the slam panel.

    Hi Michael,
I´m sorry the communication with Arve did not work out..
Will try to call him again tomorrow. If no success, I will try to get in touch with the previous owner to check if he remembers the location of the tag.

    Michael,
not that below thread clarifies anything other than that we have quite some enthusiasts around here and front slam panels are covered with myths. Avoid trying to find the clue or what this thread is about, depressing if you have a logical mind......but at least many pics of front panels shown, maybe you can read the vin numbers.
