Thread: Location vin plate 911 BY65 MY66 latch panel or not?

    Try to keep this thread alive.
    Does anyone have some more pictures of their cars/friend cars.....

    Anyone with vin above 303200 would be great to know location of the metal vin plate in combination with which latchpanel.

    Today I found an ad of Porsche 911 BY 1965 MY 1966 with VIN 303299.

    I will try to contact this company.
    Here the metal vin plate is located above the stamped vin.
    On the pictures you can't see the latch panel.
    It could be that the VIN plate has been removed and replaced.

    If there are still other people with more info about the location of vin plate, when it moved to the latch panel.
    Please let me know something! It would be value to me, because I want to do the restoration correct of mine 303381.

    How about an ex-squirt? (A squirt in this context is a young fellow.)
    The data I have collected along with what has been presented here suggest that 303299 is nearly the last with the Tag near the VIN stamping, and 303366 is one of the first with the Tag on the slam panel. It seems to be co-incident with the change from 4 screw horn grilles to 2 screw.
    I would humbly suggest that Porsche Classic Center Gelderland may have it wrong with 303138 since it seems to be an anomaly.
    I have many cars in my database near the change, but it would require contacting owners and getting the details.

    I have 303066, the stamped plate is located above the VIN stamping just below smugglers lid -- NOT at slam panel. Hope that helps.

    The last half year I have been investigating this.
    Trying to contact vin numbers that are very near to mine.
    There were not so many that I found.
    And if I contacted them by mail or forum I never got an answer.
    Radmund (Schiefer) on the forum, even found the car next to mine.
    The owner had told him hé would like to help.
    Only he has left the planet already for 2-4 months. Try to call/mail/forum/facebook but nothing.

    Is it a lot work for you to send me a private mail with some numbers with mail/forum name of the cars that are really in front or after me?
    So I can try to contact them. My restorator will begin in February with the body work, and I want to do it correct to concours level.
    I also have been seeing some early 66 cars with 4 screw grill that are restored to perfection and by specialists!
    So it would also be nice to know something more about that change from 4 screws to 2 screws.
    So we can indeed compare it and link it with the change of the latchpanel.
    Maybe there were also some cars with new latchpanel and 4 screw before total change over.

    I would be very thankful if you could help me with your database!

    I am in the same position now. I have 303201 and my slam panel has the indentations on the right side. I am almost positive that it is correct. My vehicle had shown some damage on the left side that was poorly repaired, but the left side appears to have the original factory spot welds holding the latch panel to the inner fender. After reading your thread today, I will inspect it again for evidence of replacement. I am also ready to replace this piece.

    I meant to say the right side appears to be original....the left was repaired with brass brazing.
