'. . . A rare and stunning paint colour - 1973 Porsche 2.7 Carrera RS Touring M472 is one of only 16 examples originally finished in the special order paint finish of Glacier Blue.

Chassis no. 911 360 1231 was manufactured by Porsche and delivered new in May 1973, finished in special order colour no: 6666 - Glasurblau - additionally specified with the following optional equipment:
    419 Retractable seat belts
    433 Outside door mirror
    441 Electric aerial and loudspeaker
    650 Electric sunroof

This distinctive example is thought to have been the car actually used by King Juan Carlos I of Spain during the 1970s. The car indeed remained registered in Spain until 2002 with Jose Ignacio Aguilar of Madrid, when it was then purchased by Dr Thomas Scholtz of Frankfurt and exported to Germany.

Scholtz set about restoring the car and commissioned an extensive two-year restoration, stripping it back to the body-shell and meticulously rebuilding it - photographically recording the whole process for the history file. An F.I.A Historic Technical Passport was issued in September 2004 and the car was prepared for use on a number of historic events, including the Monte Carlo Historic, Eifel Classic, Rallye Konigstein and Hessenrallye.

Ongoing maintenance and preparation between 2006 – 2009 was carried by Porsche Classic in Stuttgart and the history-file records a full engine rebuild by the factory on a replacement engine case, which can be identified by the factory stamped ‘AT’ designation. In 2013, after various historic events, the car was fully re-painted by Classic911 GmbH of Frankfurt and put back into original Touring road specification.

The car is offered with UK registration and F.I.A. HTP plus handbook and Carrera RS Supplement.
An opportunity to acquire a stunning 2.7 RS Touring model, finished in one of the great iconic 1970s Porsche colours and which has been beautifully maintained and restored over recent years . . .

In the hyperbole-laden world of automotive journalism, the term ‘iconic’ is used all too frequently. However, in the case of Porsche’s 911 Carrera RS, it is entirely apposite. Conceived to homologate its racing cousin, the RSR, the roadgoing RS offered blistering performance, stunning looks, and incomparable handling. The entire two-year RS/RSR production was limited to a mere 1,580 cars.

One of only 1,308 examples constructed to M472 ‘Touring’ specification, this particular Carrera RS 2.7 was delivered new on 14 May 1973 to Hahn Porsche of Fellbach, located a stone’s throw from the Porsche factory on the outskirts of Stuttgart. Finished in distinctive Glacier Blue over a black interior, chassis no. 1231 was generously optioned with seat headrests, three-point automatic safety belts, fog lights, an electric radio aerial and loudspeakers and an electric sunroof.

Having spent most of its life in Spain, the car remained there until at least 2002 when it was in the ownership of Jose Ignacio Aguilar of Madrid and repatriated to Germany. It passed into the ownership of Dr Thomas Scholz of Frankfurt. At some stage, the car had been repainted red and upon his acquisition Dr Scholz instructed marque specialists PS Automobile of Lippstadt to carry out a comprehensive restoration, which included stripping the car to bare metal, reinstating the original colour scheme and preparing it for historic rallying. On completion in late 2004, the car was issued with an FIA Historic Technical Passport and subsequently competed in events including the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, Eifel Klassik, Rallye Konigstein and the Hessen Rallye.

Throughout the latter part of the decade, preparation of chassis no. 1231 was entrusted to Porsche Classic Stuttgart, and the car received a full engine rebuild on a replacement crankcase – as denoted by the factory issued ‘AT’ suffix. Following the conclusion of its latter-day competition career in 2013, Dr Scholz instructed Classic911 GmbH of Frankfurt to return the car ‘Touring’ specifications. This included a bare metal respray and the fitment of rear seat squabs and belts for occasional passenger accommodation. Supported by a comprehensive history file, current FIA HTP papers and an original owners’ handbook with RS supplement, it would be difficult to find a more correct example.
