Thread: 'Orange' Hood Badges

    'Orange' Hood Badges

I realise that this is a well discussed topic and I have read most of the threads on this subject with interest but there is one detail that I haven't clearly understood and I am sure someone will know.

The early badges seem to be quite 'flat' in comparison to the later badges and certainly many of the replicas.

I think, but am not 100% sure that the 356 badge is quite flat.

Does any one know if there was a change in profile and when?

    Thanks

    Olde thread alert..

Very good question. There is a NOS one on ebay right now but it appears to be the later convex type, not the earlier flat version.

On Pages 32, 33 & 34 of #01 Originale, there is an article on the hood badge, it’s origins and the changes over the years. While not specifically stated, it would appear that the flat to curved design occurred in 1974 when the orange to transparent red change was made.
If one of the group owns a 1974 911 with an original hood badge - that would be validate that assumption!Name: 0D825FCA-3604-454B-B696-219A6B90FD3C.jpg

I’d say it’s not valid. My ‘74 Carrera made in July 1974 has an orange bar badge, NOT red bar. I am the original owner and never have removed or changed the badge. I also know of several early ‘75 cars with an orange bar badge.

Amazing how misinformation is codified in the literature and then takes on a life of its own!

Can you please post a picture of the badge? So, we can see whether it's flat or convex.

Here you go. Clearly the badge is slightly curved.

This might be of interest too...we are discussing a similar 'timeline' topic on why my red bar has an orange bar part number and when transition times occurred from orange to red, experts claim it was 75.

    Joe,

Very nice badge. Thanks for the photos.

Can anyone date this badge from these photos?

Installed on a mid sixties 911 - with a long history of owners and repaints.
