I believe that it was sold in the US after January 1, 1973 it had to have the foam bumper guards regardless of when it was produced. So probably dealer swapped. When did you father bought the car?

Are mine the earliest foamies?? Was going to them off but now maybe I will keep them )

purchased on 12/23/72. Original window sticker specifies "rubber bumpers".

Horn grills and lenses were still chrome in 72, black on those started 73 model year.

Nice car. What color is that? I'd be interested in seeing more pics, as it appears to have silver lettering which I'm assuming dark colored 73 cars had, vs. black on other colors.

Agree with Ed. Very, very early 73 model can have the rear and front bumperrettes similar to ROW metal/chrome version but black.

Scott, what can appear to be silver lettering on a 2.4L is simply faded black anodized.

Hmmm........ Just looked in my '73 parts book, and indeed all 3 were offered... chrome w/pad, black w/pad, and USA buffer

I was under the assumption that the 'early' US cars were chrome w/pad, and later US cars (like mine) were of course the 'buffers'
And the 'early' ROW cars were black w/pad, and the later chrome w/pad.........

    What evil webs........

From Jan 1973 the US crash regulations changed. Look in your door and see if there is a horizontal steel crossmember. If so, it should also have the ulgiest of the bumper guards. Like mine, which has a Feb '73 build stamp and is 9113300854.
