Probably easier to make them one way when doing reproductions.

I am assuming the right one needs the bend so the engine lid will close, the left one can be straight, correct?

I agree with Harvey, my understanding is that the right side shield was bent down to clear the lid and the other was flat or possibly the driver's side is turned around to clear the slope of the rear deck below the rear window like the Solex air cleaner housings were. The race engines used taller intake manifolds than OEM and the Solex engines also had tall intake manifolds so a little bend in the rain shields would clear both deck lid & forward sheet metal.

I bought mine from someone here. It's been a while.

My problem is the filtration. I use the little nylon booties that probably don't do a whole lot. We really need something that filters out particles larger than 10 microns. F1 filters actually filter out 7 micron particles. Just for reference a grain of sand is 50 microns.

    Lightbulb

Here's more to add to the mix.....

    - First photo of Steve Childs' T/R ... I'm pretty confident that the stuff on the engine was part of the 'kit' the Swed's got in '68.

    - A photo I've posted before of the R that the Registry's Michael Hammond was trying to sell at Westwood Porsche/Audi (with no takers) in about '71.

The conclusion here then is: If you have bent shields on both sides then the car is wrong?

This has a impact on people who are selling these items. When I bought my reproductions I just assumed they were correct. My mistake.

Are the pick up points for mounting symmetrical on the carbs? That would be an indication whether flipping a side
Is even possible and helping determine the odds for one Porsche number versus two.

The white with red car has short manifolds.....You only need the hats bent when you use tall manifolds...
