    Engine lid grill restoration

    Anyone restoring early grills?
Who wants to be the Grill Guy? (Whoever you are I've already nicknamed you Bear Grills.)

Maybe a retired orthodontist, watchmaker, or atom splitter? Someone with more time and patience than me.

I have two meaningful grills that I need done and will pay accordingly.

    Thanks.

Check with Shaun at tru6, I think he meets all your qualifications.

I suspect sourcing the brass rivets will be the biggest challenge. If anyone has crossed this bridge I would appreciate a lead.

    Thanks.

Rivets look like something used for leather belts/handbags - seem to recall seeing something similar when googling around but haven't seriously searched yet - only a matter of time.

brass rivets are not the issue....

needed lenght on the 64 grill 7mm
the piece / pair is about 50 cents
    a 50 pack around 15usd

And please, haul, where these rivets you describe and picture available? Does your edit mean they must be purchased from tru6? Thanks, Jim.

May not be perfect enough, but this was my solution Frank. These are hollow brass rivets set with a rivet squeezer and mandrels made for the rivet squeezer to upset the open end.

the rivets are standard item and can be bought nearly everywhere.
these are mostly used for making knives-to bring together the wooden parts of both sides with the metal- or else wood working parts.

just ask your local shop or do a search online...

    Squeeze Type rivets Brass

a quick search for the US brought this up

my edit was, because the anodizing for the rework is perfect in shaun' s hand, as his work is amazingliy perfect.

@ed, which diameter did you choose for the rivets? did you had to change the mesh, too? the metal strap for the mesh corners also replaced?t-bolts?

    last but not least:
    the rubber strip underneath ....
