    Progress pics:
-Painting, clear coat, wet sand and 2 stages of buffing are completed. Starting to re-assemble.
-Painting did not happen as fast as I thought. I was a bit overly critical at every step (my typical obsessiveness in the details took over) - waited days between paint and clear coat to make sure that everything was dry before the next step. Wet sanded between every stage. Sometimes waited a week before I wet sanded the clear for buffing. Oh well - done now. So back to the fun stuff!

    Hope you guys approve!
    Thanks for looking

I have extra parts from this build and also from its racing days. Such as: original front bumper, rear tail light assembly (excellent condition), torsion bars, sway bars (cleaned and powder coated), window bright work, some interior parts and panels, small parts and pieces. Also one set of four, unmatched dated fuchs - 6 x 15.

Send me an email of what you need and I will see what I can help with. mmadsen@designerwoods.com

    thanks

Sorry - haven't posted in awhile.
Interior is about completed. Some quick notes on completed and reworked items
-R taillights re-worked and painted (that was a b*tch!!) Bought these from TRE. Must have gotten the last batch. Missing rubber gaskets and the tail light frames were way out of whack! It seems like these were pulled too early from the mould. They did not fit very well at all. Had to make vertical cuts to relieve the tension so that these would open abit to fit the body. then I had to grind off (almost completely) the surrounding perimeter built up edge on the back of the frames. When you are working with compound curves - it can be a process. Had to tape of the fender, install the frames with the cuts, then apply fiberglass resin to the cuts. Once dry, I removed them, then applied more resin and fiberglass cloth to the rear side so that the new shape would hold. Then reinstall, and had to do more cuts to different areas so that the frame would set into the body without having to stress these pieces to fit. Turned out well - but this took a bit of time to remedy.
    -Redesigned the deck lid grille
-Re-plated gas cap, trim ring and deck lid scripts. I originally did them in polished nickel - a little too bright and "finished" for this build. Had them re-plated in brushed chrome
-Added yellow lettering to the tires
-Acrylic side vent windows with sealed false vents
-Re-worked rear wind screen stainless straps
-Added "R" deck lid hinges. Incorporated the hinges with the straps. Turned out nice
-Installed seats from Stefan - I did the ST seats with black vinyl and corduroy inserts
-REPA reproduction 4-point seat belts from Vintage Seat Belts. Excellent quality

Then the bright idea to do painted R stripes in lieu of the vinyl ones that I purchased from CARBONE. BTW - these will be for sale. So, re-sand the already completed body parts in clear. Calculate and tape-off for black, then wet sand the black and spray the clear coat (again). The painted stripes look soooo much better than vinyl. Hood is done and now on to the body

Once this is completed - finally I can finish up and complete this build. Have a few minor electrical issues left. Back up lights, oil level, fuel level, interior lights and gauge lights. Some ghosts in the electrical. I have a bad feeling that the original fuel sender and a fuel cell might not like each other - not working yet. So I will press on and try to figure this one out.

Can't believe that I am wet sanding the roof and deck lid again. Didn't I have those done already! The painted stripes will look so much better than the vinyl ones - and more period correct.

    thanks for looking.

Hello all! Sorry - just haven't stopped to post updated pics. Final buffing and polishing is complete. Finishing up the last little details.
    To Do List:
    1) new fuel level sender - hope this works in the fuel cell
    2) Repair some loose vinyl that surrounds the head liner. In this case - I painted the roof interior in satin black and wrapped the surrounding "framework".
    3) Buff and polish out minor swirl scratches in the side vent windows.
    4) Install the vinyl P O R S C H E script decal on the doors

I have had 2 shake-down drives. So far - no real issues. The only thing that I would like to revise is the 5th gear ratio. The trans is set up for quick, short ratio gearing. The car has alot of torque at lower RPM. Obviously set up for track use. I would just like a higher gear for highway driving.

Anyway - here are more pics:

    A few detail pics:
The rectangular box mounted on the rear firewall is an enclosure for all of the engine electronics. These were mounted in this location when the car was in race mode - so I thought it should stay - just gave it a face lift. Matched the detail of the aluminum dash bars - these are mounted with countersunk screws on the removable outer face plate.
