Back in the day, I had some 904 wheels that had cracks like that. At least I was told they were 904 wheels when I bought them. After I found the cracks I returned them to the person that sold them to me. Now I wish I still had then.

I believe the book supports the answer that Jim and I gave.
All of the stamps were probably used to "trick" the tech guys.
It is a wheel designed to be used as a spare and found it's way mixed up with steel or other bi metal wheels.
I have seen body shops install bi metal wheels from a mixed up Porsche dealer on a repaired cars before...not knowing that they were different.
Mix ups in storage and supply happened in production...and definitely in the Race dept...
There was a similar story about the early (205) wheels. Some very thin ones designed for sprints wound up on endurance cars and started cracking prematurely.

Hey Kevin......this wheel belongs in your Porsche "Win" parts collection. Find me a 5 or 5 1/2x15 discbrake alloy/steel wheel.....and it`s yours......Bill

I`ve been corresponding with a gentleman named Burt Norris, who we think may have owned this wheel. He told me he had one of these wheels from his "906004 bergspyder" he once owned. He remembers selling the wheel a couple years back to the guy I bought it from. I googled 906004 and found it. It lives in Germany in a private collection now. 1350 lb hillclimber. I`d like to see this wheel go back to the car.
