Great write up - I got out of the market before it took off and then got back in when prices were/are obscene. Buy high and sell low is apparently my motto. But, once you own an early 911, its hard to not own one. I didn't want to be that guy who walks up and says "I used to have one of these" and then walks away with a tear in his eye...

Great story. Sounds a lot like my story in 2002. I just could not tell it as eloquently.

    Nicely written all around..

Sort of got the impression that focusing on repairs, motor, driveline stuff in the future, deutschmarks required, serves little purpose. In the end life is short and so live today rather than worry about tomorrow ?

Clock is a beautiful tribute btw.

Got to love old Porsches. Nice article.
Its the experiences that make the car. Otherwise, its just a machine.

Im still a bit freaked out at what its worth. I cant afford to replace it, but refuse to drive it like thats the case.

    Still trying to get there.

Based on your description I would have been more concerned that he was buying more guns and ammo and planning something much more sinister than a divorce or paying taxes. This could explain why you were "shaking" as you shifted into gear?

As a general rule I don't trust people who ride trains.
Glad I could accompany you during this special time.

We may have to move the number up but it's so true.

Definitely. Old advice but still relevant!

Your welcome. Except now you can imagine it sitting in my garage while it snows

I have thought a few times about selling it, but I'd have to get something else. Since I can't figure out what I'd prefer, I'll stick with it.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully have more out there on Jalopnik more as time goes on. Though I doubt they'll all be Porsche oriented:

Very well written Kris. I enjoyed it; especially your inclusive "what's yours?" question.

    Thank you.

Nice piece, Kris. I'm sorry that the emotional experience that you have described with such eloquent detail has become the stuff of myth and legend such a short time later. The laws of supply and demand have imposed a harsh regime on our crowded world.

As always, nice read! I always enjoy your articles and your writing style. Knowing a small part of the history of your 911 it's good too see that it has evolved into your vision....a tastefully done Sports Purpose 911!
Give my regards to Aaron H for me the next time you see him.
