Tony has been the go-to guy for decades, but in recent years his responsiveness has really fallen off. Some people have been waiting years for their work to be returned. I really mean years. Do some googling or check the 356 Registry forum.

    Hello Everyone,
Here is some other work we've done for some customers. This was for a gentleman who needed some keys made for his door handles.
    So, we:
Properly cleaned and lubed his lock cylinders and receivers,
Cut two new keys to code,
Adjusted the tumblers to compensate for wear
Made one Porsche script key and one aftermarket spare

This is an ignition that we are rebuilding for a customer's lock set. This lock also needed a new key. The existing key (old) had some very funky cuts on it that were off and out of spec. You can see here that the pin tumblers now align perfectly at the shear line.

Here's a job we just finished up for a '68 Targa. The customer needed all new keys for his lock set. So we decoded the locks and cut all new keys to code. We also rebuilt the lock cylinder/receivers and installed new seals. The parts were deep cleaned and treated for oxidation and then all new lube. When we disassembled the ignition, we found the typical damage caused by arcing to the contacts. So, we rebuilt the electrical switch as well. The glove box lock was repaired, repinned and new keys made (yes these can be successfully keyed). Lastly, we refinished the locking pull handles and hand polished all of the lock cylinder faces.

    Dan,
Could you elaborate some on your ignition switch rebuild?
I have nursed mine along but believe it needs attention again. See link below:

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...on-switch-help

I did get a contact part, with the bumps, from Stoddards. They are calling it a 356 part, but it seems to be the same as what is in my switch (69 911 T).
Of course, there is still wear on the traces that it contacts...

Anyhow, I may be interested in what you could do with my switch. Maybe it would be best to find a NOS switch and pay up?

    Thanks,
    Dan

About a year ago i sent Tony a PICTURE of my '69 911 key and within 2 weeks had 2 perfectly fitting keys without a penny changing hands. Sent him a check only after I saw the keys fit.

    Hello Dan,
The switches are repairable and rebuildable. We can also rekey them. So, if yours is too far gone, we can always make one from two, cannibalize parts etc. to make you one working good one. I read through both threads (the registry and ddk threads). I saw your picture of how you managed to get yours back together after disassembly. Actually your approach while not elegant in appearance was quite ingenious in my opinion. You fabricated little clamps to hold the housing to the base. When these switches were made they were built to last. And as everyone knows after decades of use they are still in operation. However, like most of the ignitions on Porsche, Porsche never really cared about making them serviceable, only replaceable. Porsche wants you to buy replacement parts, not have you fix your own switch. So, in order take these apart, they suffer damage to the Bakelite. The only way to get them to stay together requires rebuilding of the damage to the Bakelite base, proper crimping, a new strong snap ring and know-how. I can't see your switch or see what is the problem at hand, but we would be happy to take a look at it for you and do our best to get it operational for you. Whether you decide to tackle it again or send it in, please note that the design of this switch creates arcing by default. Arcing can lead to fires. A loose switch can also create arcing. We can repair damage to the Bakelite. A hands on inspection will reveal if any other repairs are necessary. If you would like to send it in, just send me a private message and I will provide further instructions.
    Regards,
    Dan & Alicia

If you plan on showing your vehicle. And you are discriminating and want only the best for your pride and joy, how about these? Yes, this level of restoration is possible. These early handles received the royal treatment.

Here is an ignition we recently rebuilt and put new keys to. The contacts were repaired. The switch was completely disassembled, deep cleaned and treated for oxidation. New lube and dielectric grease applied as applicable. The lock was decoded and the keys were cut to code. The Bakelite was repaired. The internal contact plates and blade terminals were also cleaned and treated for oxidation. New snap ring installed to keep the assembly firmly held together and housing properly crimped. The unit was properly reassembled, and a quality control check was done prior to shipping back.

    Thanks Dan.
I will be getting my car going in the next few weeks. My last chore is to look at my switch. It didn't want want to start with the key just before I started work on the front suspension.
I had been "hot wiring" it which seemed to be working just fine, so I suspect my switch...
I may be getting in touch!
