Serious offer: $1,000.00 offer for my restored '67S

I was just offered $1,000 for my fully restored numbers matching 67 S with rally options including big tank.

It was a serious offer. In writing.

The state government sent me a letter specifiying my car by its VIN and asking to buy it for $1,000 for their "cash for clunkers" program to get smog emitting vehicles off the road. They then will crush it.

Hmm...I suppose it's good for the environment?

Obviously a scam. Cash for Clunkers ended in August of '09.

I get these every year from the California Air Quality Control Board.
Used to piss me off but they've added " if you car is a limited production or collector car, please disregard this offer".

Still get these, and that line makes all the difference...not.

With that said, rust repairs can inspire a kind of hopelessness that might weaken one to such a come-on from CARB. "I mean, it would just go away, right? And they'd PAY me?"
