Interesting Andy
Thanks for that datapoint
Cheers

More, a very original one I had was 914 347 086 10, 91mm grip. Very smooth leather and very soft. G.Led
Aside from the felt, the wheels had a layer of plastic like substance melted on the original wheel. There was not two layers of leather, just the plastic wrap then the felt and one layer of leather.

Great looking wheel Mike. That is the real deal for sure. One of the wheels that Andy describes, with the original receipt, I bought from him years ago and now is in the RS. Like Dave, I really like the extra circumference of this steering wheel in my hands.
To add detail to Don's post, the material that is glued onto the plastic rim is not carried onto the spokes. That detail is one the characteristics that sets the original ones apart from the later recovered wheels.
These are best period wheel, especially with the smaller plastic and leather horn button, IMHO.

Nice wheel Mike. Hmmm, I know a car that would look and feel great in...

Looked at the wheel over the weekend and took some better pictures also I verified it is the real deal. Has the original thick 3 5/8" leather wrap in real good condition, couple of small scrapes and indents from storage. I made a deal to buy it and will pick it up tonight.

This wheel needs to go on a real 911 ST/GT or a 914-6 GT. I see some of these original cars which are big money missing their original Racing department 380m wheel. Found this picture of a real 911 ST that looks like it has the correct wheel.

Steering wheel has been sold and is going on an special early car. It was an incredible wheel and when the buyer received it he let me know how happy he was to have it.
