Interior experts needed - floor mat/carpet

I have some questions about the interior of my car 303381 (BY65 - MY66).

    1. Until when were the hold on snaps on the floor used tot attached the carpets for driver/passenger/back and around braking boot?
I have found and read something here. Car 302136 still has these.
I suppose I don't have these hold on snaps welded on the floor?

    2. About the material of the floormats: does I need rubber or carpet with with rubber heal pads?
I have found something in the following thread. But don't really find my answer.
Here I suppose I have rubber floor mats in front and back like on the picture below. Picture is from car 303371 (Ned Bacon) but don't know if this is original.

    Where are those interior/carpet experts?
Would be a great help if there would be some clarification so that I can update my body guy about this.
    Thanks!

I don't think 301382 has snaps. Maybe they disappeared in the decades before I got it. Or, maybe those snaps are a feature that appeared and disappeared a few times. The front trunk tie-downs seem to have done that.

I think 1965 and 1966 911s should have velour carpet. Brett Johnson's The 911 & 912 Porsche, A Restorer's Guide to Authenticity says (page 74) "For 911s a velour carpet was used through the end of 1966." It's not the most detailed statement.

The (downloadabe) parts catalog has (for the driver's side floor mat):

    • 901.551.011.26 carpet perlon velour F 305101 >>
    • 902.551.011.24 carpet BOUCLE 354001 or 458101 >>
    • 902.551.011.20 carpet rubber for cars without sportomatic

The 902 parts numbers also imply these were for 912s.

I have four early brochures that show the carpet:

Go ahead. Drive it. You'l never forget it. (undated from Porsche of America showing 1965 Porsches):

It clearly shows carpet in the front of the 911 and rubber mats in the rear of the 912.

This is my oldest brochure that shows carpet/floor mats. It's W221, Oktober 1964. It's the only brochure showing rubber mats.

Note that it also shows an unusual gearshift boot that goes 2/3 of the way up the shift lever and a crudely retouched 901 on the glovebox door. That looks like a 356 knob on the headlight switch.

I can't be 100% certain, but I think it's highly doubtful there were many early, top of the line, 911s sent out of the factory with rubber floormats unless an owner made a very special request for rubber mats.

    Jim,

Thanks a lot for this nice and detailed overview with images and text.
So that's already a question that is answered. So I need to provided my car with velour carpets when the time is there for interior works.
I also searched the global web + forum about the carpet hold on snaps that are welded on the floor panel.
Do you know something about that? Car 302136 still has these because I suppose still retaining it's original floor panel.

I am doubting if my 303381 still has these floor snaps for holding on the carpets.
Maybe this was something that changed with the leather to the rubber shift boot/handbrake boot. Don't know if this is making any sense.

    Jim,

I already talked with Jacques about this.
But he also did not knew until when these carpet hold on snap were used.
My car has a new floorpanel so need to know if 303381 could have these snaps.

    Interesting!
Do you know if your car still hs it original floor?
If yes do you know if it has mouting tabs?
I suppose cars with rubber mats dont have these.
Did you do some research if rubber mats and tunnel are correct?

Should find someone with a + 303000 car that still has it original floors to verify the hold on snaps.
At this way we can termine slowly when they disappeared.
I suppose that when chamged to rubber mats the car dir not have these snaps
