pricing gauge needed - 2.4ltr S engine running

Looking for what the market currently is for a running / driving 1973 2.4ltr S engine ( correct MFI etc...) i can find a little bit from euro auctions last year and last refer here was back in 2015.

seems euro auction market is seeing 30-35k usd plus plus , nothing on ebay ( not that thats a very good gauage of anything ) seems rare that they now pop up for sale if at all.

    John,
I left my pricing gauge in a customer's car or else I'd let you borrow it.

Unless it's a super weird circumstance where you have documentation from a reputable shop any engine is considered a "core". (Who in their right mind puts a non-bonafide used engine in a $200k+ car and calls it good?) Based on that let's break it down into components:

    2.4T engine core: 7k
Legit 2.4S case or blank case: 10-12k including spa treatment at Ollie's.
    2.4S Heads: 1500
    2.4S P's&C's: 2k
    2.4S MFI: 10k
    2.4S distributor: 700

A touch over 33k on the outside minus what you can sell the T parts for. Call it 30k in round numbers.

Why would you buy a complete motor that you know little to nothing about internally for that amount?

Obviously I'm not a big fan of used engines unless a reputable shop will stand behind it. Seen WAY TOO MANY situations where someone "thought" they had a Grade A healthy engine to sell when in reality it was not.

Just some recent numbers- I just rebuilt my 2.4L T motor with rebuilt EVERYTHING or new (MFI pump. throttle bodies, linkage). Basically made it a 2.5L S motor for my 72 911T Project Car. Concours looking motor. Cost was $21k including labor.

Actual S motor will always command more- especially for someone missing one.
    Thanks,
    Chad
