Yeah, I'll never do Bat either. They passed on our '83SC Cab with 17,000 orig miles. Had killer pics and ALL docs, and paperwork from new. They said it wasn't the type of car their customers were looking for. Reserve set at a very realistic realistic price for what it is. Meanwhile they're selling clones into 6 figures. Go figure.

Well, my trip to Phoenix swap meet is cancelled; wife has cataract surgery that Monday...not gonna risk not being here for that.

The bidders drove the price up to an unrealistic figure. The winning bidder backed out for no good reason except he was weird. ALL of the lesser bidders were not interested even after we offered each of them the car at a much lower decent price. I feel they were not real bidders but employees of BaT who were running the bids up just to make things look promising. They should have compensated us in some way but nope, too bad. Other things smelled fishy as well. We sold a car on ebay with no problem at all. We thought BaT would be a step up but not so. They did nvr2mnya favor by passing on his SC.

Having bought two excellent cars on BaT, a Citroen 2CV and its exact opposite, a 500hp E55 AMG Wagon, I must say that from a buyer's standpoint the process worked very well. People who back out of bidding there get kicked off immediately, and any sort of insider shilling would never fly with so many genuine bidders involved. And bargains do exist. They do pick and choose their free listings, but anyone can sell a car there for a few hundred bucks. See their instructions.

3rd party bidding much more common at Mecum and BJ. Keep in mind that in most states is legal to bid on your own car until the reserve is met.

Once the reserve is met you have to stop bidding. On he the other hand the 3rd party guarantor can continue bidding.

There are many more similar stories - a lot of amazing cars rejected. Perhaps it is somewhat random as a lot of bad fits get listed. Maybe they get 1,000 requests per day. I have no clue.
