Help Needed - Dimensions of original lightweight door straps

the leather strap attaches to the door latch with a small key ring, the round split type...

Through a simple hole in the leather, or an eyelet, do you recall?

And I guess my only other question is whether or not the exposed end of the strap (at the screw) is cut square, or rounded? [EDIT - I see that they're square-cut]

No eyelet just a hole, and the screw end, cut square, but it looks bad, a rounded end matching the screw head looks much better... I wanted to build a M471 long ago, so I looked at every detail... And 40 years with SFPD also helped...a little. that's the Encyclopedia Brown...e

wow - those are radically different! interesting evolution; seems the leather was thickened, but the ends and the ends/bushings deemed unnecessary (or unnecessarily expensive?) in the later version..?
